Willow & Lace Millinery: Fashion on the Field

Gaynor Jones’ bespoke millinery range for Willow & Lace has become exceptionally successful, with pieces being worn at weddings, exclusive events and by racegoers nationally.

In 2016 and 2017, Willow & Lace designed and produced statement race wear pieces for the ‘Colour Me March’ Ladies’ Day event at the Cheltenham Races.

The oversized flower and feather headpieces for 2016 were bold in design and colour, and were styled to compliment each of the Miss Cheltenham finalists’ attire.

The millinery collection for the Miss Cheltenham Finalist 2017 Ladies’ Day again drew upon bold colour, this time with a stronger focus on feathers, using feather crowns in pastel shades and block colour.

Looking towards the 2018 Cheltenham Races, these exquisite designs by Willow & Lace incorporate the trends you’ll need to know for next year, as seen at the SS18 shows in London, New York, Milan and Paris.

Pastel shades of pink, yellow, purple and green were featured in the collections of Hermés, Tom Ford and Victoria Beckham. These beautiful designs will inspire you to take on the trend.

Paint-box shades in primary colours will also be hugely popular for next spring, as seen in the Versace and Calvin Klein shows. Walk with confidence in these exquisite designs.

The hottest of pink combined with red is certain to be a show stopping combination. Shown in the Oscar de la Renta and Coach 1941 collections, these statement colours will certainly turn heads.

Feather accents and embellishments enhanced the looks by Balmain and Maison Margiela. The layers of feathers and pearls in these designs are bold yet elegant and will complement your social season ensemble with their delicate craftsmanship.

Ornamental headpieces adorned with flowers, playing cards and rainbow plumes of feathers added a playful element to Dolce & Gabbana’s collection. These designs by Willow & Lace are beautiful sculptural works of art, sophisticated and simply perfect for Ladies’ Day.

Hello gorgeous people!

Its been a while since we last wrote a blog post. We promise you we have been extremely busy here at Willow & Lace HQ. We have been making lots of gorgeous millinery for Royal Ascot as well as styling lots of beautiful women for the event.

This blog post is slightly different, in the sense that we wont be telling you about the fabulous hats we made for the event. Instead we will be blogging about one of our other favorite services and that is ‘Dress the Dress’.

Back in April we were approached by one of our lovely regular clients, Charlotte Hamilton to help style her for Royal Ascot. Charlotte had previously purchased a gorgeous lace dress from us in a stunning nude colour for a spring wedding. Using this dress, we altered the shape and added embellishment and a feather trim, to up-cycle and revamp her dress, to look entirely different for Royal Ascot. The results were fabulous and we are so happy to be sharing the images with you! Does’nt Charlotte look gorgeous!!

The dress was originally an all over lace maxi in a halter neck shape. We chopped the length of the dress into a midi length and tailored the skirt into a more pencil shape, giving a figure hugging sexy silhouette, to suit Charlotte’s figure. To help lift the beautiful nude colouring we opted for a gorgeous soft rose, pink feather trim. This trim not only complimented the nude tone, but it also gave the dress a vintage spring feel perfect for Ascot. To finish off the look, we added a fine rose gold metallic cord to the waist to help tie everything together complimenting all of Charlotte’s accessories.

So as you all know, this week has been a big week for us with it being Chelteham Festival. Our designer Gaynor Jones had been so busy styling and creating hats for other ladies going to the races, that she completely left her own outfit until the last minute! Except for her hat of course!

Cheltenham’s renowned Cavendish House came to the rescue and kindly offered to kit Gaynor out for the Ladies day event.

Cavendish House is Cheltenham’s oldest and leading department store located on The Promenade. It was founded in 1823 and fast became the heart of Cheltenhams shopping district. The store became part of the House of Fraser group in 1979 and continues to be known as ‘Cavendish House’.

Gaynor is a big fan of Biba so was delighted to have the choice of the whole collection which was available.

She opted for the gorgeous Biba Metallic sleeve detail belted jersey dress’  and teamed it with a gorgeous faux fur leopard print coat. The look itself was effortlessly chic, keeping the hat as a focal point. Gaynor designed and made her own matt silver sequin percher hat, adding a pearl trim and some pheasant feathers for a touch of drama.

If you would like to shop this look check out our style board below.

To shop the dress, coat and shoes head over to House of Frasier. The dress is currently retailing at £49.00, the coat at £60 – all from Biba and the shoes are Michael Kors and are retailing at £155.00. The earrings are our gorgeous Alma earrings and can be purchased from our E shop at £40.00. The gorgeous headpiece is a bespoke item, if you would like to have a consultation with gaynor about having a unique piece made, get in touch.

We hope you enjoyed our quick style post for today!

Last year we had the privilege of designing and making all of the millinery for the Miss Cheltenham finalist, as well as many avid racegowers. The hats went down a storm and featured in all national newspapers! From the Evening Standard,  through to The Guardian.

This year we were asked to design and make another collection of millinery for the Miss Cheltenham Finalist 2017. The theme of ‘colour me march’ allowed for us to be creative with colour yet again! We were beyond excited to get going with this project.

The journey for designing this collection started back in late January this year. We reflected on last years collection and drew on all of the best quality and features as a starting point for this years Ladies Day range. On reflection the strengths of last year were definitely color and statement shapes. The combination of both things was truly fantastic! Especially making an impact when all the girls made an entrance together into the race course. This was something we wanted to develop on this year.

This year the collection was made up from feather crowns and our signature feather bomb. We used a varied colour palette from pastels to vibrate block colours, to tie on with each individual finalists outfit.

Variations of pink was a firm favorite among many with it being a key trend colour for spring summer 2017 – From baby pink right through to hot pink. See our gorgeous 2017 Miss Cheletnham Finalists below.

Miss Cheltenham 2015 (Sophie Lydia Smith) approached us to style her for the ladies day event. We took inspiration for fashion houses like Chanel and Dior, and opted for a classic monochromatic colour palette teamed with a clean and modern silhouette throughout.

We designed and made Sophie a ‘Percher’ style hat. The key concept behind the hat was ‘Regency & Bows’  tying in nicely with the whole feel of Cheltenham as a place. We kept the whole hat very simplistic adding just an off white pleated bow along with a soft black velvet bow for contrast. The two focal pieces are carefuly placed on the base adding both high and drama for Sophie. The hat itself was the focal point of the whole outfit! And wow did it make a statement being papped throughout national newspapers!

One of our favorite pieces to have made this year was a statement crystal headpieces. We love clients with lots of personality! And Kitts sure has alot of personality! We created a gorgeous crystal percher hat that caught the eye of all racegoers and photographers! Kitts wanted to represent the traditional aspect of British country wear as well as her love for all things sparkly and glamour. We were thrilled to style Kitt’s head pieces and her outfit was bought from Lord & Lane Fashion Cafe.

Another one of our favorite pieces we made was for the lovely Jeanette! Jeanette wanted a statement hat to stand out from the crowd. So we opted for a signature Feather bomb in navy blue and light grey to compliment her gorgeous jacket courtesy of Lord and Lane Fashion Cafe.

We are totally thrilled with the response we have had to our new millinery collection! We have been featured in national newspapers with the girls being papped as some of the best dressed! We even had BBC Points West interview some of the finalists along with our Millinery designer Gaynor Jones. Check out the interview here.

It’s the 1st of December and we are already into our Christmas wedding season! Where has 2016 gone?

Its all hands on deck at the Willow & Lace HQ we have lots of gorgeous millinery pieces for mother of the bride/groom going out as well as some gorgeous bespoke bridal millinery and art deco pieces being finished as we speak for winter weddings this weekend

Talking of millinery, we thought we would share some lovely imagery from a stunning country Christmas wedding we styled last December. (Photography by Rebecca Northway)

The wedding was set against the back drop of a hunting lodge in Gloucestershire where wedding event planner Julia Sidbun worked her magic with her team, to create a picturesque scene with twinkling star lights above guests heads creating a night sky, rustics country lodge table décor using seasonal foliage, antlers and just the right amount of candle light to create a warm idyllic atmosphere. Perfect for the season!

Here is the beautiful mother of the bride who had a bespoke hat made by Willow & Lace to match her gorgeous two piece for the day (outfit by Cocoa Couture).

The brief was to create a bespoke statement hat to compliment the outfit, using the same colour palette and fabric and not making the hat look to ‘Christmassy’ keeping it chic and stylish.

The final result was definitely a complimentary piece and set off the outfit perfectly. We used a two-piece tilt base, covering the two pieces with red and charcoal grey velvet used in the jacket. The tilt was then set off with a gorgeous gun metal brooch, creating a focal point and dressed with peasant feathers to finish off the hat keeping it chic and stylish.

This wedding has to be one of Willow & Lace’s favourites to date that we have worked on, and this shape has gone on to become one of our customer favourites seeing us use this shape and size for many millinery pieces thought-out 2016.
