HATS OF TO CAVENDISH HOUSE CHELTENHAM

So as you all know, this week has been a big week for us with it being Chelteham Festival. Our designer Gaynor Jones had been so busy styling and creating hats for other ladies going to the races, that she completely left her own outfit until the last minute! Except for her hat of course!

Cheltenham’s renowned Cavendish House came to the rescue and kindly offered to kit Gaynor out for the Ladies day event.

Cavendish House is Cheltenham’s oldest and leading department store located on The Promenade. It was founded in 1823 and fast became the heart of Cheltenhams shopping district. The store became part of the House of Fraser group in 1979 and continues to be known as ‘Cavendish House’.

Gaynor is a big fan of Biba so was delighted to have the choice of the whole collection which was available.

She opted for the gorgeous Biba Metallic sleeve detail belted jersey dress’  and teamed it with a gorgeous faux fur leopard print coat. The look itself was effortlessly chic, keeping the hat as a focal point. Gaynor designed and made her own matt silver sequin percher hat, adding a pearl trim and some pheasant feathers for a touch of drama.

CHELTENHAM LADIES DAY 2017

MILLINERY FOR THE MISS CHELTENHAM FINALIST 2017

Last year we had the privilege of designing and making all of the millinery for the Miss Cheltenham finalist, as well as many avid racegowers. The hats went down a storm and featured in all national newspapers! From the Evening Standard,  through to The Guardian.

This year we were asked to design and make another collection of millinery for the Miss Cheltenham Finalist 2017. The theme of ‘colour me march’ allowed for us to be creative with colour yet again! We were beyond excited to get going with this project.

The journey for designing this collection started back in late January this year. We reflected on last years collection and drew on all of the best quality and features as a starting point for this years Ladies Day range. On reflection the strengths of last year were definitely color and statement shapes. The combination of both things was truly fantastic! Especially making an impact when all the girls made an entrance together into the race course. This was something we wanted to develop on this year.

This year the collection was made up from feather crowns and our signature feather bomb. We used a varied colour palette from pastels to vibrate block colours, to tie on with each individual finalists outfit.

Variations of pink was a firm favorite among many with it being a key trend colour for spring summer 2017 – From baby pink right through to hot pink. See our gorgeous 2017 Miss Cheletnham Finalists below.

STYLING MISS CHELTENHAM 2015 FOR LADIES DAY 2017

Miss Cheltenham 2015 (Sophie Lydia Smith) approached us to style her for the ladies day event. We took inspiration for fashion houses like Chanel and Dior, and opted for a classic monochromatic colour palette teamed with a clean and modern silhouette throughout.

We designed and made Sophie a ‘Percher’ style hat. The key concept behind the hat was ‘Regency & Bows’  tying in nicely with the whole feel of Cheltenham as a place. We kept the whole hat very simplistic adding just an off white pleated bow along with a soft black velvet bow for contrast. The two focal pieces are carefuly placed on the base adding both high and drama for Sophie. The hat itself was the focal point of the whole outfit! And wow did it make a statement being papped throughout national newspapers!

STATEMENT CRYSTAL MILLINERY

One of our favorite pieces to have made this year was a statement crystal headpieces. We love clients with lots of personality! And Kitts sure has alot of personality! We created a gorgeous crystal percher hat that caught the eye of all racegoers and photographers! Kitts wanted to represent the traditional aspect of British country wear as well as her love for all things sparkly and glamour. We were thrilled to style Kitt’s head pieces and her outfit was bought from Lord & Lane Fashion Cafe.

Another one of our favorite pieces we made was for the lovely Jeanette! Jeanette wanted a statement hat to stand out from the crowd. So we opted for a signature Feather bomb in navy blue and light grey to compliment her gorgeous jacket courtesy of Lord and Lane Fashion Cafe.

We are totally thrilled with the response we have had to our new millinery collection! We have been featured in national newspapers with the girls being papped as some of the best dressed! We even had BBC Points West interview some of the finalists along with our Millinery designer Gaynor Jones. Check out the interview here.
